OLYMPIA, Wash. - Sophomore Annie Mullen will practically be racing in her backyard Saturday at the 29th Annual NAIA Cross Country Championships on November 22nd. The Championship race, which takes place on the campus of the University of Wisconsin at Parkside, is only an hour drive from Mullen's hometown outside of Chicago, Ill.
The women's team wrapped up a great season last Saturday and will be represented by Sophomore Mullen at the National Champs.
Placing third as a team, the Geoducks were paced by Mullen's 11th place finish. Finishing in the top 12 earned Mullen All-Conference honors, the second women's team member to earn that recognition in team history.
At the conference championships Evergreen put 4 runners in the top 23 places, a feat never previously accomplished. Ranked 32nd in the final NAIA polls, the team was close to securing a team spot to nationals but are unable to join the top 2 teams in the conference in Kenosha.
Mullen ranks in the conference top 15 lists for both the 5k and 6k distances with an 18:56 and 23:06. Ana Casillas leads the conference 6k list with a 21:54 posting.
With this being Mullen's first and only season of cross country, the former lacrosse player and recreational runner turned national class will be the first representative of the women's program at these championships.
