PORTLAND, Ore - Sophomore Brian Rakestraw had an individual win in the men's four mile race at the five Cascade Conference team Warner-Cascade Open Cross Country Meet at Lent's Park in Portland. The women's team placed second overall.

The women's team started off the days competition in the 4 kilometerrace under sunny, fall skies.Geoducks Emily Uhlig and Kelly Beckham moved up to join the large pack of Corban College (#26 NAIA) runners after the first mile and worked their way up to 3rd and 4th respectively. The race was won by Corban's Danielle Jordan in a time of 14:47.

Evergreen placed 2nd in the team scoring with 59 points to Corban's 23. Warner Pacific was third with 75 followed by Northwest Christian College with 78.

In the men's four mile, Rakestraw moved from around 10th place at the mile to the lead shortly after two miles. He didn't look back after that and won by 22 seconds over Anton Stupnitskiy of Warner Pacific.

Rakestraw's win is the second individual win in team history. Freshman Liam Rockwell completed his first race for Evergreen finishing in 23rd place in 23:41.

Evergreen's men ran just four individuals today and did not post a team score. Corban also won the men's team titlescoring 26 points.

The Geoducks and all conference teams head to Eagle Island State Park near Boise, ID for the Cascade Conference Championships October 20th.
