OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen's Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the Northwest University Invite this afternoon at Marymore Park in Redmond, WA.

Two Geoducks placed in the top dozen in the women's and men's races. Emily Uhlig and Brian Rakestraw both placed 12th in their respective races.

In the women's 3 mile (.1 mile short of the usual 5k race distance) the ESC women's team placed 5th of 6 teams. Uhlig leading the way with a time of 19:05. ESC entered 5 athletes in that race. Newcomer Ariel Taylor finished 41 seconds behind Uhlig in 17th place. Kelly Beckham, Diann Leo and Ani Glass crossed the line in 25th, 32nd and 39th respectively. Transfer Ana Casillas competed unattached, placing 19th.

Evergreen did not enter a full team in the men's 4 mile race. Some team members have not arrived yet and others are not ready to compete. Rakestraw covered the course in 21:20 followed by Miguel Pineda in 25th place and a time of 22:02. Freshman Chris Johnson and Tyler Luce placed 48th and 49th respectively. Junior Patrick Murphy competed unattached finishing in 40th place.

Next Friday Evergreen heads to the University of Portland Invitational at Pier Park. It will be a first time event for the Geoducks. Women's race begins at 4:30 PM.
