Cross Country competes in championships Saturday

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams head to La Grande, OR tomorrow to take part in the 2006 Cascade Conference / NAIA Region I Championships hosted by Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
Both teams have been looking strong in their late season meets and hope to improve on their 2005 team finishes. The women finished seventh in the conference and tenth in the region in '05, while the men finished sixth and ninth respectively. There will fourteen teams competing.
On the women's side, freshman Kelly Beckham (Interlake High School) and Emily Uhlig (SO. Central Washington University) will be in contention for All-Conference and All-Region titles. On the men's team, a strong contingent of four runners has emerged. James Hudson (Jr. Mountlake Terrace HS) and Brian Rakestraw (Fr. Woodinville HS) have both been in the top position on the team. Miguel Pineda (SO Tumwater HS) is back in the running after missing most of the season with an injury. Eric Jones (SO Columbia River HS) has been coming on strong and is challenging the frontrunners.
Saturday's race will determine the national championships qualifying teams and individuals. Results will be posted following the race at http://www.eou.edu/athletics/xc/
