Klimek Cracks Top Ten at Pete Steilberg Invitational |

October 8, 2005 OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Josh Klimek ran a team-best 26:46 five kilometers to pace The Evergreen State College men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Pete Steilberg invitational this weekend in Olympia. The ninth-place finish is the highest for Klimek this season since the Saint Martin's dual, also held at Evergreen, where Klimek finished second in the two-team race. Evergreen's Miguel Pineda and James Hudson finished in 13th (27:06) and 16th (27:12) place respectively to propel the Evergreen men into third place. The five remaining Evergreen runners finished in a pack from 38th to 44th place with Patrick Murphy (38th place/30:15) and Jason McConnell (40th place/30:48) rounding out the scoring for the Geoducks. Joseph Williams (32:04), Bryan Torian (32:08), and Kevin Backman (32:16) finished in 42nd through 44th place respectively. Evergreen runner Cayenne McKillop continues to lead the Evergreen women and nearly claimed her first top-ten finish as a Geoduck as the freshman crossed the line in 11th place with a time of 19:59. Rachael Williams was 40 seconds back of McKillop to claim 21st place with a time of 20:39. Kelsey Blair ran the five kilometers in 21:59, good for 28th place. Liesl Plomski and Amanda Kirklin finish the scoring for Evergreen with times of 23:11 and 23:33 respectively. The Geoducks race again next Saturday at the Cascade Invite in Portland, Oregon. The race is set for a 10:00 am start. |
