Evergreen Gets Look at Stiff Competition at NAIA Region Preview |

October 16, 2004 Portland, OR-The Evergreen State College cross country teams were using the NAIA Region Preview meet as an opportunity to scope out the competition for the Conference and Region I Championships that will be held in three weeks. What they saw was some pretty stiff competition. Eastern Oregon University swept the top three spots in the men's 8 kilometer race as the Mountaineers defeated Cascade Conference rival Southern Oregon University by a ten point spread. Meanwhile the Geoducks placed ninth as Evergreen's top runner Josh Klimek finished 32nd overall with a time of 26:59-a full two minutes behind winner Eric Griffiths who paced the field with a 24:57. Admittedly, head coach Craig Dickson planned to use the meet to rest some of his runners who hosted the Pete Steilberg Invitational last weekend. But the Geoducks have an uphill battle to finish well in the conference with Eastern, Southern, Warner Pacific, Albertson, and Oregon Tech all besting Evergreen. On the women's side, the Geoducks also finished in ninth place as Northwest and Eastern Oregon were the top conference teams. Northwest's Tiffany Stillwater won the 5 Kilometer event with a time of 18:09. Meagan Mower came in first for Evergreen at 20:51 and a 39th place finish. |
