Nick Moore named "Newcomer of the Year" by conference February 26, 2008 Women's Basketball - The Cascade Conference announced today that Evergreen's Jennifer Solberg (Sr. Franklin Pierce HS / Tacoma, WA) was among ten players named to the All-Conference Team. An Evergreen player has not received the honor since the 2004-05 season. The 5'10" senior, who earned Honorable Mention last season, averaged 14.7 points per game, ranked second in the conference in rebounds (9.6 per game) and made 82% of attempts from the free throw. The Women's Basketball team ended their season last Tuesday with a 9-21 overall and 8-12 conference record. The Geoducks finished in 6th place in the conference standings. More... Men's Basketball - The team has a shot at the Cascade Conference title as they host Warner Pacific Tuesday night in the finals. The Geoducks are one win from a spot in the NAIA Division II Championships. Nathan Menefee (So, Timberline HS / Lacey, WA) was named to the All-Cascade Conference Team today with Nick Moore (Jr. Bethel HS / Fircrest, WA) getting an Honorable Mention nod. Menefee and Moore have been the top two scorers for Evergreen this season, with 22.8 and 13.9 points per game respectively. Additionally, Moore was named "Newcomer of the Year" by the conference. Evergreen defeated Oregon Tech Saturday night in Klamath Falls, OR 93-76, the second year in the row the Geoducks have upset the Owls in the conference tournament. OIT has earned an At-Large berth to the Div. II Champs. Evergreen is ranked 28th in the most recent NAIA polls. In Saturday's game, The Geoducks had four players reach double figure points with Menefee and Moore both netting 21 points in the win. Moore grabbed seven rebounds and Menefee handed out six assists. Julio Feliciano (So, Mt. Tahoma HS / Tacoma, WA) and Marcus Whittaker (Sr. Henryetta, OK) each scored 13 points for TESC. Game time is 7:30 PM. More... Men's and Women's Track and Field - Three school records were broken Saturday at the Icebreaker Invitational hosted by Linfield College. The meet was the mark of the official outdoor season and over a dozen college teams participated. In his first attempt at the event, Brian Rakestraw (So, Woodinville HS / Woodinville, WA) broke the four-seasons-ago school record of 10:13 with his 10:09.76 in the 3000 meter steeplechase and placed second. Lindsey Farah (Jr. Yelm HS / Yelm, WA) finished 8th in the 400 meters in 1:03.36, breaking her own college record by nearly two seconds. Ryan Lara (Fr. Franklin Pierce HS) won his heat of the 200 meters and broke the 22 year old school record in that event with a :24.09 performance (16th overall). Lara set his personal outdoor best in the 400 meters, placing 11th of 32 in a time of :51.90. Another notable performer Emily Uhlig (Sr. Liberty HS / Renton, WA) who finished 9th in the 1500 meters and doubled back at the end of the day in the 5000 meters with an 8th place finish in 19:16.9.
