October 27, 2007 OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen women's and men's basketball teams had a final tune-up today in preparation for their season's first games next weekend. Thirty-five former Geoduck basketball players gathered in Olympia for the Tenth Anniversary of Evergreen Basketball Alumni Game. Players delivered a good show to fans, with some good natured teasing between longtime friends and enough intensity in the games to bring out that competitive spirit. In the women's game, the 2007-08 squad downed the alumni 68-39. There was no holding back by players of either team as senior Jennifer Solberg led her team with 11 points. For the alumni, Dahlia (La La) Gomez tallied 18 field goals made. There was high scoring action in the men's game where twenty-one alumni players suited up for their chance on the court. The game ended with a score of 101-70 with the current team taking the win. Alumnus and three time NAIA All-American Trelton Spencer led his team with 17 points while Senior Marcus Whittaker posted 22 points to his teams win. In their first college games of the season, the women’s team will travel to Montana this weekend for the Carroll College Tournament. They will play the host Carroll Friday and Montana Tech Saturday. The men's team heads to Idaho to take on NCAA Division I Boise State on Friday. |
