Cost of Attendance for 2008-2009 (estimated)

It's difficult to put a price tag on an Evergreen education, but eventually you will need to consider the cost of attendance. All of the costs noted here are estimated for undergraduates for the 2008-2009 academic year. The estimated cost for tuition and fees for graduate students are found on “I will be a Graduate Student.” The cost of attendance includes tuition, books and supplies, room and board, transportation and miscellaneous (personal) expenses. The Office of Financial Aid uses the cost of attendance to determine your financial aid award.

What are the estimated undergraduate costs for a full time student?
These estimated costs assume that you have no dependants when you are attending Evergreen and that you are registered for 10 to 18 credits each quarter. It also doesn't matter where you live—on or off campus—during the time that you are at college. These costs cover the nine-month academic year that starts in September and ends in June.

If you apply for a loan, a 2.5% loan fee will be charged. For example, if you apply for a $1,000 loan, the 2.5% loan fee will be deducted from this loan amount and your account will be credited with $975 (minus the $25 loan fee.)

During the 2007-2008 academic year, if you registered for 19 credits during a quarter, the resident tuition was $1,661 and the nonresident tuition was $5,441. Students registered for 20 credits during a quarter were charged $1,792 (resident tuition) and $5,904 (nonresident tuition). The maximum credit load is 20 credits per quarter. The 2008-2009 tuition for 19 and 20 credits will be determined after July 1, 2008.

Note: The Washington State Legislature and the Evergreen Board of Trustees set the rate of tuition annually by July 1. Tuition is subject to change without notice.

How much is tuition for part time students?
If you are registered for less than 10 credits during a quarter, your tuition is calculated on a per credit basis. The minimum credit load is 2 credits per quarter. These are for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Are there additional fees ?
In addition to tuition, there are four mandatory fees for students that are collected every quarter.

College Activities Building Redesign Fee $5.75 per credit / $92.00 maximum
Intercity Transit (Bus) $1.10 per credit / $13.20 maximum
Clean Energy $1.00 per credit / $20.00 maximum
Health Center $44.00 flat fee for students registered for 10 to 20 credits

Washington State Public Interest Research Group (or WashPIRG) requests that all enrolled students pay an $8.00 flat fee each quarter. This is an optional fee. However, Evergreen’s Student Accounts office automatically bills every student for the WashPIRG fee. You must contact Student Accounts to remove this fee from your bill.

The office of Student Accounts is the central billing unit for the college.

Here are a couple of examples of quarterly tuition and fees:

Washington Resident student registered for 16 credits = $1,772.20 (including WashPIRG)
Nonresident student registered for 16 credits = $5,392.20 (including WashPIRG)

If you are a student attending either the Tacoma Program or the Tribal: Reservation-Based Program, your College Activities Building (CAB) Redesign fee, bus and health center fees are automatically waived. However, if any portion of your registered credit load includes a course/class offered on the Olympia Campus, these fees will be included.

If you are studying abroad or are registered via individual contract or internship, you must submit a written request to have the CAB Redesign, bus and health center fees waived for the quarter that you are abroad or on contract. Please send you letter requesting a waiver of these fees to:

What do I have to do to become a resident of Washington state?
To be considered a resident of Washington State for tuition purposes, a nonresident must first establish a domicile in Washington in compliance with state laws. You must also establish your intention to remain in Washington for purposes other than education.

If you are a nonresident and would like to apply for residency, you must submit the application to change your status. The Office of Registration and Records processes these applications and provides residency information. Please contact Registration and Records at (360) 867-6180 with your questions.

May I pay my tuition online?
Yes, you may pay your tuition as well as your housing and meal plans online. Your student account is created after your have been formally admitted to Evergreen. Go to Evergreen’s IT Survival Guide, Logging in for the First Time and follow the steps to take under “Determine your student login name” and “Determine your default password.”

Next, go to my.evergreen.edu and use your login and password.

You may use MasterCard® or VISA® credit cards, or a debit card with either the MasterCard® or VISA® card trademark symbol on the card, or an electronic check. You may also create “Authorized Users” in my.evergreen.edu. Authorized Users will also be able to make online payments to your student account. Authorized Users will not be able to view your account status and you may designate as many Users as your desire.

Note: you may wish to change your password from the default password created by the college after your have logged in. If you experience problems with the login, you can troubleshoot by going to Evergreen’s IT Survival Guide, Login Help.

Are there other payment methods?
Yes, there are three other options for you to use if online payment isn’t a good choice for you.

Electronic Funds Transfer. Contact Student Accounts at (360) 867-6447 for details.
Mail. Write your name and student identification number on the check or money order, include the billing statement and send your payment to:

The Cashier’s Office is located on the first floor of the Library Building, Room 1119 and they are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

When is tuition due?
Tuition and fees are billed quarterly by mail if you are pre-registered. Payments in full must be in the Cashier's Office by 3:45 p.m. on the deadline for each quarter—postmarks are not considered as meeting the payment deadline. If payment is not received, you will lose your registration in the program or course(s) in which you were registered. You will be given an opportunity to re-register and you may be subject to a late registration fee ($50). Registration and Records will determine if a late fee will be assessed.
