More than a third of Evergreen students are adults (25 years of age or older) and come from every walk of life. Adult students make a significant contribution to the learning community because they bring the rich diversity of their experiences to the classroom. As you share your impressions and opinions, you will also find that the idealism of your more youthful classmates may enhance your perceptions and attitudes. There are two ways adult students can take classes at Evergreen. You can go through the formal admission process or you can register for an 8 credit program or 4 credit course right away. What's the difference?
Many special students start by taking a program or course through the Evening and Weekend Studies curriculum and complete the formal admission process simultaneously. However, you may continue your studies as a special student for as long as you like. You will pay the same tuition rate as regular students. All of the credits you earn as a special student will count toward your Evergreen bachelor's degree. But remember: you will need to apply for formal admission to Evergreen before you can graduate and be given a degree. If you are interested in applying for formal admission to Evergreen, please review the information available: Freshman Applicants A Curriculum Meant for the Adult Student
Adult students can take advantage of the convenience of the Evening and Weekend Studies program. There is no doubt that balancing your career and children are huge responsibilities. But if that promotion is just out of your reach because a bachelor's degree is required, attending Evergreen as a part time student may be just the solution for you. The average age of a new evening and weekend student is 35 years old. Since the Evening and Weekend Studies curriculum is designed for adults with full time lives, these programs and courses may not be appropriate for students who are coming to Evergreen directly from high school. At the core of the Evening and Weekend Studies curriculum are the 8 and 12 credit interdisciplinary programs. There are also 4 credit single-subject courses that complement these interdisciplinary programs. You will find courses in Culture, Text and Language, Expressive Arts, Scientific Inquiry & Environmental Studies, and Society, Politics, Behavior and Change. There's even an 8-credit program taught in Grays Harbor. These programs and courses meet in the evenings or on the weekends to fit your busy lifestyle. Questions? |
