WashPIRG - Evergreen Chapter

WashPIRG is an independent, statewide, student-run organization that works to protect the environment and consumers and end hunger and homelessness. For 30 years, students with WashPIRG’s Evergreen Chapter have been winning concrete changes that make a difference in people’s lives. WashPIRG helps students learn the skills of effective citizenship by providing opportunities for us to investigate social problems, find practical solutions, convince the media to pay attention, organize the public, and get decision-makers to act.

This quarter, WashPIRG’s solar campaign is building public pressure on the state legislature to pass a bill in this legislative session that would cause Washington to get 10% of its energy from solar power, up from less than 1%. Solar power in Washington is opposed by the powerful fossil fuel and nuclear industries. However, our campaign is driven by the understanding that we can win if we build enough public pressure on elected officials. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities where everyone can get involved, learn organizing skills, and make a real difference on climate change and air pollution. The solar campaign is democratically run, and we'd love to hear your ideas!
