In 2004 the Geoduck men's soccer team reached the NAIA national championships for the first time in school history -- and became something of a Cinderella story in the process. "We started getting some of the play back and people in the stands started quacking" head coach Tom Boatright said of the experience at nationals. "It was just awesome. If we had Geoducks T-shirts we could have made a fortune." Senior forward Joe Gjertsen, the Cascade Conference's player of the year, was third-team All-American and one of 11 players named to the NAIA all-tournament team. Nate Ford received honorable mention All-American and made first team All-Region. Tom Boatright was recognized as NAIA Region I Coach of the Year. Evergreen finished 16-7 and reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA championships after being seeded 18th going into the 20-team tournament. |
