The
Nuclear Reservation spans 25 square miles of desolate Eastern Washington
desert. It also runs along the Colombia river, like many power plants
and industries in Washington. The river was used in the cooling process
when producing plutonium. |

During
the Manhattan Project, the plutonium for the A-Bomb dropped on Hiroshima
and Nagasaki was produced here, with instructions from Los Alamos. Contamination
signs are sprinkled along the road side and create an eerie atmosphere
with the reactors in the background. |
