Innovative Academics

Students enroll in a single, comprehensive "program" rather than a series of separate courses. You'll explore many aspects of a theme or topic through different but related academic subjects. By tackling topics in an interdisciplinary way, you'll learn not only about a broad range of subjects and issues, but you'll become a critical thinker and a skilled communicator.

It's New and Different, Dynamic and Relevent
It's because we create a fresh, topical and engaging curriculum every year. At Evergreen, you could find yourself studying across several academic disciplines - all at once - and all in the same class. Imagine exploring psychology, environmental studies, math, history and economics and how they all inter-relate. This amazingly rich intellectual journey would be led by a team of professors not just one instructor.

Collaborative Learning

Our faculty work together in teams of two, three or four who teach in one program. They plan activities like labs, workshops, seminars and field trips to create an atmosphere of shared learning with groups of about 25 students. You'll also get real-world learning experience through hands-on exploration and internships.

Create Your Own Course of Study
Evergreen also gives you opportunities to explore whatever and wherever your curiosity leads. We call these customized opportunities "learning contracts" between individual faculty members and students. Evergreen's learning contracts require active participation in your own education.

Narrative-style Evaluations

You'll be evaluated in detailed narratives that become part of your academic transcript — instead of letter grades. Faculty will evaluate your work and your self-evaluation is also included. Experience has shown us that these noncompetitive transcripts are valued by employers and graduate schools because they are more descriptive and revealing than traditional grades.

More Like the Real-World
Employers don't give grades to measure your success and neither will Evergreen. You'll meet with your professor one on one, face to face to review your learning and how it will help you succeed in the workforce or continued studies. The result is a "narrative evaluation," much like a performance review you would receive from a supervisor at work.
